- His interest in music began during his school days. He used to listen to his mother’s Malayali songs, which his father used to record in a little tape recorder.
- KK never received any formal training in music.
- Seeing KK’s talent, his teacher suggested his father to send him to a music school. He went there and learned a light classical song in just two days but he never showed an interest in learning music, so, his father stopped sending him there.
- The fact that Kishore Kumar, the legendary Bollywood singer, never learned music, gave him a bigger reason to not to learn music.
- During his school days, he used to listen to his favourite songs and hum along; one of his favourite songs was ‘Mehbooba’ from Sholay (1975).
- When he was studying in class 2, he gave his first stage performance in the school. He sang ‘Jab Andhera Hota Hai’ from the film “Raja Rani (1973).” He started taking music seriously after this performance.
- KK married his childhood sweetheart, Jyothy Krishna, and for marrying her, he took the job of a salesperson. However, he quit the job after 6 months to pursue his passion for singing. His wife and his father extended their support and gave him the courage to quit his job and follow his passion.

- After quitting his job, he purchased a keyboard and started making jingles with his friends, Shibani Kashyap and Saibal Basu. Three of them made money too, but KK remained unsatisfied. He, eventually, left for Mumbai.
- After he sang his first jingle, Music director Ranjit Barot asked him about his rate for singing. He was completely unaware of the industry and was very shy to answer. Ranjit then showed him five fingers, which made KK assume that he was going to be paid with Rs. 500. When he received his paycheck, at the last, he was astonished to see that the amount was actually Rs. 5000.
- He is a huge fan of the American singer-songwriter Billy Joel.

- Before his break in the movies, he had sung more than 3500 jingles in eleven languages in the span of four years.
- He considers Lesle Lewis, who gave him a chance to sing his first jingle, as his mentor.

- Many renowned singers and composers such as Arijit Singh, Ankit Tiwari, Pritam, and Armaan Malik admire his voice and his knowledge of music.
- KK, once revealed that he loved being the voice of “Aamir Khan,” and misses singing for him.
- The song ‘Maa’ from the movie “Taare Zameen Par (2007),” was initially recorded by KK. He recorded the song and went out for a holiday. He was told later that few changes were made with the song and he needed to re-record it. KK replied that he wouldn’t be able to do to that and hence, the song went to Shankar Mahadevan.
- In 2013, KK sang the song “Rose Of My Heart” along with Reet for an international album “Rise Up (Colors of Peace),” songs composed by Turkish poet Fethullah Gülen. The album contained the songs which were sung by different artists from 12 countries.

- His son, Nakul, gave the voice along with him for the song “Masti” from the movie “Humsafar (2008).”
